Pepper stopped cold as Mr. Kord addressed her a second time, and she turned around in time to see him straightening his shirt - and asking her out to dinner. Would Tony object, he wanted to know. Pepper highly doubted it. Would she object was the more pressing question. It often surprised her than no one asked if she and Tony were romantically involved. She chalked that up to her professional demeanor around him in public, (ignoring the near-kiss at the Fireman's Benefit some time ago). And it surprised her more to receive a dinner invite from....true. A business rival.
iWhat would Tony do?
Pepper blinked. That was the most ridiculous question she had ever thought. How many time had she ushered a lady out of the house after Tony was finished with his 'interviewing'? What Tony would do was simple - dinner and bed. Or perhaps bed and dinner based on what time of day, the amount of clothing worn by the woman, and her first responses to his attempts at flirting. Pepper had that part of Tony Stark down to a science.
She realized Mr. Kord was still waiting on her and she spoke even before giving the matter enough thought. "Of course," she said...and then added quickly: "he wouldn't. That is, I don't think he would object. And I wouldn't either."

Ted Kord tried to his best to maintain a suave kind of smile. He was probably sweating bullets at the moment, but he chose to ignore that aspect of it and look as attractive as he possibly could. He waited for Peppers response for what seemed like hours, she was obviously thinking about Tony at the moment. But Ted did not press the question, he simply stood and smiled.
Then the answer came. It was not a straight out yes, but that's not what Ted expected from the woman. He nodded politely at her response and quietly breathed a sigh of relief. "It's set then!" he exclaimed. "Or at least I hope it is.." he added in a softer voice. "Shall I pick you up at Stark Tower?" , he asked with a coy grin. He chuckled a little and nodded once more.

Oh wouldn't that send a magnificent message to Tony? Pepper was caught again and she realized she wanted to go on this date on the sly, without Tony actually knowing. That was quite devious of her and not something she would have anticipated herself doing or feeling. Of course the alternative was to have him pick her up at home and that was an automatic no-no. Pepper spent nearly all of her time either at Stark Towers or at Tony's home in Malibu. She often slept from the hours of midnight to five, and checked in to her office in Tony's house around 5:30 a.m. And that was the only time she was at home, unless Tony asked her to leave for any reason.
So she had no choice but to say: "Of course. Eight o' clock? Or was this for another day?" She actually had the grace to blush as she realized she'd assumed he meant tonight.

Tesser said nothing, but watched the exchange in genuine fascination. She coudldn't help but smile to herself as she listened to the conversation. Lounging in her seat, she thought it was incredible, like a soap, but way better. Unnoticed, she wriggled out of the chair and slipped through a gaggle of teenaged girls, happening to snatch one of their camera phones on the way.
It wasn't that nice, so she decided that she'de return it when she was finished. Settling back in her chair she pretended to read the Vidio game box while flipping on the vidio and setting in her lap so as to surrupticiously film Ted and Pepper flirting. Just to have, you know?
